Partnering With Parents

August 7, 2023  |  9:00 am-4:00 pm
Hope and Healing Family Counseling in Roseville MN
Bottom Floor Conference Room

Registration: $150.00  |  5.5 APT CEUs

Providing psychotherapy to children necessitates that we also partner with their parents. For some child therapists, this can be intimidating, overwhelming and their least favorite part of their work. In this training, we’ll learn that working with caregivers can be rich, creative, fruitful and even fun. We will draw from the work of Paris Goodyear-Brown and her innovative book, “Parents as Partners in Child Therapy.”

Upon payment and full participation in the course, you will receive 5.5 contact APT CE credits and a certificate of completion. APT provider #07-204

Learning Objectives:

  • Examine their feelings, apprehensions, and obstacles in their current work with parents.
  • Identify ways that they can overcome feelings of “Imposter Syndrome” in their work with caregivers.
  • Identify how parents experience shame in their parenting and list three ways to help diminish parental shame.
  • Identify ways they can present to caregivers bottom-up brain development.
  • Describe three ways they can help parents to become the “Safe Boss” for their child.
  • Identify three ways they can provide a “Cascade of Care” to the caregivers and families of child clients.

Integrative Social Work Supervision 30 Hour Intensive

Sept. 21-22 & Oct. 5-6, 2023 | 9:00 am to 4:00 pm
Hope and Healing Family Counseling in Roseville MN
Bottom Floor Conference Room

Registration: $650.00 before August 1. $850.00 after August 1.

This intensive meets the Minnesota Board of Social work requirements for the 30 hours of training required to become a social work supervisor. It also meets the continuing education ethics requirement for licensure renewal.

Our time will be a balance of direct teaching and experiential activities, self-reflection, and application through case material. It will also be a time for connecting with other soon-to-be supervisors, and we will have fun together!

Examples of topics included:

  • Contracting, documenting, and evaluating
  • Burnout and depletion prevention
  • Ethical considerations and supervisory dilemmas
  • Supervisory styles and roles
What makes this training different?

At Safe Haven, we value building relationships using principles of trauma informed care. Because of the stressful nature of social work we are deeply interested in ways to integrate somatic awareness and regulation–not just in clinical work but within the supervisory relationship itself to reduce staff burnout and depletion.

All of these ideas will be modeled throughout the training to nurture your ability to support the individuals, groups, and systems you supervise. You will leave with a portfolio of knowledge, skills, and hands-on supervisory strategies!

Integrative Social Work Supervision will be offered in a hybrid in person and independent study format.

  • 24 CE hours will be in-person at Hope and Healing Family Counseling, LLC on the following dates:

    Part I: Thursday-Friday September 21-22, 2023 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm
    Part II: Thursday-Friday October 6-7, 2023 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm

  • 6 CE hours of independent study will be completed between Parts 1 and II.

Testimonials

“Marit and Sara are simply incredible. Their presentation style is very engaging, interactive, and collaborative. From the first day, staff commented on how enjoyable the supervision training was and how it felt like one of the best experiences they had ever been part of. By the end of the training, staff stated they felt confidently prepared to be supportive and effective clinical supervisors. I would highly recommend Marit and Sara.”

“Several colleagues and I were fortunate enough to participate in the 30 hour supervision training offered by Safe Haven. It was the most meaningful training we have had the privilege to experience. It was a safe, open space full of brainstorming and validation for the hard work that we do. A colleague described it as a spa training. Years of struggle and tension melted away once we were given permission to process our work. The training lays an important groundwork for the profession which helps build great supervisors that can support their staff in a safe way.”
